Lately I’ve been trying harder to eat more healthier. I know this sounds really cliche but after feeling super sick quite a few times this month due to unhealthy eating habits (i.e. eating 3 cinnamon buns in one day), I’ve been making more of a conscious effort to eat healthy. Here are some tips that I’ve found really helpful on my journey towards healthier eating habits!
1. Get rid of unhealthy foods
The best way to resist temptation is to simply remove it! All those unhealthy snacks and processed food has to go.
2. Buy healthier foods
Now that the unhealthy food is out, it’s time to bring the healthier foods in! Make sure you have some healthy snack options that make great substitutes for the unhealthy ones you’re used to eating!
3. Keep a dietary journal
Recording what you eat every day will help you become more aware of what you’re putting into your body. I also like to record how I feel after each meal or snack. That way if my stomach starts acting up, I’ll be able to look back and find out what my be irritating it. And by keeping a dietary journal, I’ve also been able to track how much water I’ve been drinking. This forces me to drink more water every day!
4. Set rules for yourself – and stick to ’em!
I’m not going to lay out any rules here because I want you to find what works for you! But if you need help getting started, a rule I’ve set for myself is the rule of one. If there’s a plate of cookies, only take one. Only one treat per day. Only one serving of dinner, etc.
5. Have others keep you accountable
It’s easy to break your own rules. But if you have someone to keep you accountable, you’ll be less likely to break them. Ask a friend or someone close to you to check up on you every once in a while and see how you’re doing!
